Laid is pronounced like paid, but

not said.
Said is pronounced like bread, but not bead.
Bead is pronounced like lead, but not lead.

    @Saad you are correct in your first statement. “Set” and “said” have the same “eh” sound in US English.

    Interesting lesson, luckily I have drilled this many times until it became a second nature. I do have a question though if I may, do you pronounce "I set" and "I said" in the same way? The way you said "said" sounded to me pretty much like the e in set, pet, let etc, while I always pronounced it as ai in paid, raid, maid etc. I wonder if I have been mispronouncing it all the years!

    @هادي yes. You can lead (leed) someone as in be a leader. Or past tense, you have lead (led) someone yesterday. The same pronunciation is also for the soft metal lead that can poison you.

    Pronunciation may vary in what part of the world you are at, and also it changes where it's in writings, or in speech. Mesmerizing!

    Yeap! There is no such thing as consistency in English pronunciation... That's the one of the hardest parts to learn English. By the way, Korean has relatively more consistent than English in term of the pronunciation. And so, you can read Korean words within a day if you know the rules of Korean phonics.(Even though you don't understand the meaning). I mean you can make sound of Korean words cuz there is very simple rules of pronunciation. There is no variation just like English.
