Idiom of the day : “Cutting corners”
This idiom is used to
describe doing an action poorly in order to save time or money. It is only used as a negative phrase, usually to describe somebody doing a bad job. A synonym for this phrase would be “taking a shortcut”. Here’s an example:
Dave 🗣 “Has the house extension been completed now?”
Pete 🗣 “Yea, they have finished it really early. But to be honest, I think they’ve been cutting corners, because the workmanship is terrible”
