If you are a fake native English speaker or born in an English

speaking country but just really suck at English and you offer corrections on HelloTalk, don’t be mad when people correct your “corrections”

It happens with other languages too but especially English.

I wish HelloTalk had a “correct the correction” function to be able to correct comments as terrible corrections are accepted as fact by learners unless challenged. You are not only not helping a language learner, you are hurting them by teaching them something wrong that will have to be corrected later.

But if you use HelloTalk to try to date someone who lives 11,000km from you or scam them out of money, you probably don’t care if you are not helping their language learning do you?

    Yesterday someone kind corrected my posting in A totally wrong one 😂😂😂😂

    @Sodashi haha yes “racist” is the most overused and abused word these days! 👍 A: I don’t like the color of your car. B: You are racist!
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @Aaron well said and of course the lower the level of English the learner has, the longer they will be fooled making it even worse.
  • Sodashi

    I totally agreed! Because I was tired of “their” wrong English even I can notice. Once I posted like “If you’re not a native English speaker, please don’t correct my English”, then they attacked me “you’re a racist!!!”🤷🏻‍♀️
  • Aaron

    It's hard for English learners to separate the wheat from the chaff. How do you know if someone's good at tennis? Just watch them play or find out the championships that they've won. How do you know if someone is fluent in English if English is not your first language? It's much harder.

    @Coral thank you Coral! 👊 👊
  • Coral

    I cannot agree more👊👊
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @rossy thanks rossy! ✌️
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @Krystal that’s the best way
  • Krystal

    @John I usually don't reply the messages from a person who doesnt write any moments or without introduction.
  • rossy

    Great post😃😃😃 I'm agree with you.
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @Monica 🍻 😊
  • Monica

    @John I can't agree with you more!
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @Monica Yes! and they nearly always want to argue that their crappy corrections are good which embarrasses them even further. 😂
  • Monica

    Finally someone says so. I really hate that people are even not scammers but set their mother language as English. I like browsing people's postings here to learn English. When I read their English, I feel ashamed of them. Bcz even I can tell their obvious mistakes.
  • Lina

    I agree
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @Deleted sad to hear but it happens often! Why waste everyone’s time? 🙄
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @Krystal There is no easy way to tell apart from the quality of their corrections. Many will put USA, UK etc as their nationality but hide their location and no audio or moments.
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @Onana right!? 😂
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @Lin Johnny yes agreed it’s been happening forever but unfortunately I don’t think they all have good intentions.
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @Aaron me too haha and thanks for your input! Rapid increase in scammers on here lately for some reason! 🤔

    Once I posted if anyone native wants to have voice call, then this guy with English flag, blurry profile picture sent me a message. After talking for a while, I got to know that he's originally from Afghanistan but living in the U.K, he even claimed that his English is terrible. My question is why would you message me in the first place and it's time wasting, I felt being messed about.
  • Onana

    Date someone who lives 11000km from u? Hahahahaha what a brave action😂
  • 许丹

    so, can you help me.i,m chinese, and learning english. wish we can be friend.
  • Lin Johnny

    This situation has been existing for quiet a while and the correction not only within comments but also when both talking, but deep down I know they’re all trying to help with good intentions. And I do think being able to correct the corrections is a good idea.
  • Susan Lifetime VIP

    I agree with you ! 👍👏
  • Aaron

    I sometimes make mistakes too by the way, especially when I type too fast.
  • Aaron

    Totally agree. I have seen fake English speakers and scammers "correct" moments that were error-free from the start. Many scammers act like nice guys at the start by offering corrections in the hope that they can win trust and manipulate their victims later.
  • Krystal

    Please tell me who are fake native English speakers! 😳 BTW I’m real Chinese speaker 😆
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @Ainoa yes exactly!
  • John Lifetime VIP

    @Ainoa haha thanks Ainoa🙏
  • Ainoa

  • Ainoa

    100% Agreed 👍 정말 맞아요, 제 대신 말해줘서 정말 감사합니다, 완전 동의 😄
