Today officially marks 2 weeks since I started learning chinese!! 🥹💗 And honestly? My thoughts haven’t changed. I still love learning this language, even when it’s hard. If anything, the challenges make me want to push even harder. I just want to look back one day and feel proud of how far I've come I’m also so thankful for everyone who’s supported me, given tips, or even just read these lil updates. You’ve made this journey feel less lonely. I hope I keep meeting more amazing people and eventually get comfy and capable of actually speaking in chinese too 🤍 Here’s a mini wrap-up of the past 3 days since i didnt do any updates: - Still working hard on pīnyīn...my biggest struggle is with x and ch (send prayers 😭) - Started watching “Speak Chinese With Me” vids and mirroring them! Theyre super fun. Honestly, im gonna try making that a daily habit. - Learned new vocab + how to properly use 不 and 没有 Worth mentioning: I’ve been recognizing more characters without needing to have pinyin written underneath (im super excited btw) Anyways that's all for today, as always, I'll continue working hard!!! Over that time, I’ve been focusing a lot on vocabulary. And while I do practice pronunciation, I know that’s still one of my weaker areas but honestly, that’s totally normal! It hasn’t even been two weeks yet, and no one’s perfect from the start. Today, since i was a little busy, I decided to take a little break from learning new vocabulary and instead focus on pīnyīn and the pīnyīn charts. I practiced recognizing the tones more clearly, which is definitely a challenge, but I already feel like I’m improving. I kind of wish I had started with this earlier instead of just drilling vocab ... but hey, it’s never too late :) So for the next three days, I’ll keep focusing on tones and pronunciation, and I’m hoping that’ll really help me sound more natural when I speak! That doesn’t mean I’ll ignore vocabulary though! I’m going to use this time to review and refresh the words I’ve already learned so they stay sharp in my mind. Also… I’ve been thinking about trying daily journaling using only Chinese characters 😭 It’s super intimidating as a beginner, but I think once I get into the habit, it’ll be really fun and help me improve faster. And maybe… hopefully… I’ll be able to read some simple books soon too 📚🥹 That’s all for today! As you can (hopefully) tell, I learned a bit of vocabulary today using the app SuperChinese. So far, I’ve only learned “cat” and “dog” under the animal section, but hopefully I’ll pick up more soon! 🐶🐱 I tried forming sentences on the spot again, which is still super hard, because it feels like my brain’s in overdrive trying to get the pronunciation right and make sense. A humbling experience, to say the least 😭 Daily sentence: 我的狗叫Clover. 他八岁了。我很喜欢他。 Anyway, I thought it’d be fun (and fitting) to do today’s voice recording talking about my dog, while practicing pronunciation and sentence-building. Even though I say things like “I’m butchering the language” or “I’m embarrassing myself,” I genuinely have fun doing these recordings. And honestly? I feel way more confident speaking now than when I started, even with all my mistakes. :) its also really motivatkng how encouraging everyone on here is, so it makes me want to keep doing this daily until I've reached my goal for this language learning journey. Today, I did a bit of light studying since i was busy. One thing i learned was the difference between 看 and 看见. E.g 你看, 那是什么? 你看见我的书? Also how to use 一点儿 and I'm so happy that i can recognize these characters wnd others without needing pinyin 😭🙏 I also learned vocabulary for chair, table, glass and things like locating items. I can't remember everything right now since my brain is a little foggy ˕ <マ ₊˚⊹♡ Week 1 Recap!! To be honest, I was so nervous about learning Chinese. I delayed it for a long time because I kept hearing how hard it was, and I wasn’t sure if I could do it. But now? I regret not starting sooner. It’s definitely challenging, but honestly… that’s what makes it fun. Even the small wins, like understanding a word or forming a sentence, make me proud. I wake up thinking, “Okay, time for Chinese,” and I go to sleep thinking about it too. I’ve fallen in love with the process 🥹💗 Final thought: If there’s something you want to do, don’t let fear stop you. Just start. Even if it’s hard...especially if it’s hard.
