I've prepared a map for those of you who are unfamiliar with Nagano Prefecture. It took 5.5 hours by train from Tokyo. Nagano Prefecture is famous for soba noodles, which were tasty. I'll be working tomorrow, then taking another 5.5 hour train ride home. I was a little nervous at first, but everyone has been so kind, and I'm so grateful that they love Japan even more than I do. I'm a little (a little? or a lot?) older than you all, so I'd love to be a reliable older guy to you. (Calling myself an older guy is self-deprecating, but I guess I have no choice. I know that it's currently the off-season in Japan, but I wonder why so many foreigners come to Japan from autumn to spring. I know that autumn brings the autumn leaves, winter brings the snow, and spring brings the refreshing cherry blossoms. I also know that Japanese food tastes better in autumn and winter. Ramen is best in winter. Also, I've heard rumors that Japan's summers are so hot that travel warnings are issued. Is this true? So, I would like to introduce the ramen, *tsukemen, and *mazesoba that I have been eating since January. *Tsukemen is a Japanese noodle dish where the noodles and the soup are served separately. You dip the noodles into the rich broth before eating. *Mazesoba is a Japanese noodle dish served without soup.
