Respect others
HelloTalk is a place where differences aren't just tolerated, but celebrated. We embrace diversity and respect everyone's uniqueness – language, accent, ethnicity, gender, religion, or anything else that forms the identity or experience of another person.
Keep an open mind
Being part of such a diverse melting-pot of cultures provides an incredible opportunity to see the world from new perspectives. Keeping an open mind is critical for building empathy and understanding across cultures.
Help and support others
HelloTalk is built on the concept of language exchange. Other members help you learn about their language and culture, while you help them learn about yours. This mutually beneficial relationship between learners is what makes our community thrive.
Content and Behavior
Content that doesn't follow these core values will be removed at HelloTalk's discretion, and may result in removal from the community. HelloTalk proactively enforce community guidelines through a mix of technology and human moderation. Unacceptable behavior includes, but is not limited to:
- Harrassment or bullying
- Posting pornographic or other adult content
- Publishing phishing links, advertising, or spam
- Abusing the report or block function
- Looking for romance or dates
- Committing fraud (for example, taking another person’s identity to commit crimes, harm others, ask for money, donations, etc.)
- Using content without permission (for example, a photo from someone else's profile or post, a screenshot of someone's profile or contact information, a screenshot of a chat conversation, or someone else's post)
- Registering multiple accounts or posting content automatically, systematically, or programmatically.
Unacceptable content includes, but is not limited to:
- Hate speech
- Pornography, images or text which contain partial or full nudity;
- Advertising and seeking dates, relationships, or romance;
- QR codes or IDs from other apps (including but not limited to: WeChat, Line, Kakao, Snapchat, Skype, etc.)
- Sexual harassment, Content (including but not limited to: text, image, video, or audio) of sexual implication;
- Spam, false advertising, marketing, promotional materials, misinformation, fundraising notifications, auctions, sweepstakes, sales, job hunting;
- Insulting language, including cursing;
- Drugs and alcohol;
- Violent threats or images that are considered violent, terrifying or disgusting, or explicit content, such as words and images of people and animals that are mistreated, harmed or dead (including text and images about self-harm);
- Racial slurs
- Self-harm, suicide, and dangerous acts
- Topics that lead to conflict and argument, including political and religious rhetoric
- Using content without permission (for example, photos from other people's profiles or posts/images and content posted by other third-party software/apps).
