HelloTalk is a place where we can immerse ourselves in both learning and experiencing other cultures by talking to fellow users. Our Super Users talk about how using HelloTalk allows them to get a glimpse into other people’s worlds, ways of living, and connect with their love of language.

This post is a part of our Super User series. In this collection of articles we talk to some of HelloTalk’s top followed users, explore what makes them stand out, and… what we can learn!

“My goal in using HelloTalk is to practice Japanese. I’ve been learning Japanese for a few months now and I practice the vocabulary I’ve learned from my books on HelloTalk.”

Florent spends his time on HelloTalk looking at the Moments’ feed and chats to people he has met. Alongside Japanese, he is also practising Korean and Portuguese.

Florent’s Words of Wisdom

HelloTalk is a great way to discover other cultures. I think you should post pictures showing what’s special about your country. I’m always delighted to see Japanese landscapes, art or food on my cellphone. I’m a musician, I have posted pictures of my work and gigs and had a lot of likes on these pictures.

“My goal in using HelloTalk is to improve my Mandarin, learn more about Chinese culture and calligraphy. At the same time, I want to meet new friends from around the world and teach my native language, English.”

Swetha uses HelloTalk to regularly post pictures of her Chinese handwriting and get advice and suggestions from other users. “Learning Mandarin Chinese has become such a huge part of my life. It is amazing to have so much support and help from my HelloTalk friends. I’m very thankful to all the people who follow my daily posts, it gives me so much drive and inspiration to continue improving my language skills.”

Swetha’s Words of Wisdom

Be as active as you can on HelloTalk! Make corrections, suggestions, and posts that relate to the language you are learning. Show how much you love that language’s culture, and how you connect it back it to your own.

“My goal in using HelloTalk is to improve the language I’m learning and to teach my native language, French. I also use it to discover cultures from all around the world and meet new friends.”

Yann began using HelloTalk a few years ago. He uses HelloTalk to help people through correcting Moments and for chatting with new language partners. He has made a friend through the app and went to Korea to meet them. “It was amazing to discover the daily life of Korea”, said Yann. “I would like to say a big thank you to HelloTalk for the chance to do that.”

Yann’s Words of Wisdom

It’s great to share the culture and daily life of your country and see that it’s interesting to other people. HelloTalk is mostly about learning languages, but to learn and understand another language you have to understand the culture as well.

There is true wisdom in that Yann! What for us seems commonplace, other people can find new and fascinating. Be it your daily walk to work, weekly hangout with friends over a cup of bubble tea, or even your breakfast!
